Other thermally conductive products

The constantly increasing technical demands on electrical and electronic assemblies lead to major challenges in the area of thermal management.
Due to the miniaturization of components and the higher performance of devices, the component temperature would increase significantly without countermeasures, which can lead to the failure of the entire assembly.
In order to increase the longevity of electronic components, the heat must therefore be conducted from the heat source (electronics) to the heat sink (e.g. heat sink).
Thermally conductive and electrically insulating intermediate layer materials, so-called Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs), are used for this purpose.
KERAFOL® has developed effective, uncomplicated and cost-effective solutions in this area with the KERATHERM® and KERAMOLD® product ranges.

What other thermally conductive materials are there?

Kerafol also offers many other material groups in the field of thermal management, such as graphite foils, phase change materials (PCM) and, most recently, KERABSORB (absorption of electromagnetic radiation), a completely new product line. Did you not find the thermal management product group you are interested in? We also develop new solutions together with you, we look forward to your message and your input.

How are Phase Change materials applied?

In order to apply liquid PCMs precisely, KERAFOL® offers an extra service in the field of screen printing. For this purpose, the PCM is heated, which changes its aggregate state from solid to liquid and thus makes it flowable. The liquid material is then applied to a customized screen. The excess material is scraped off and the remaining material is used to create the desired layer thickness. The material dries out within a few minutes, preventing smearing during transportation.
Further information on screen printing can be found in the Kerafol service section.

What gap in the field of TIMs does the KERABSORB product range fill?

KERABSORB materials are silicone-based elastomers similar to gap pads which, in addition to their “thermally conductive” and “electrically insulating” properties, can also absorb electromagnetic radiation up to a frequency of 80 GHz.
This is now necessary for some applications in the field of electronics, as the higher frequencies and data rates combined with ever smaller distances between the individual antennas (transmitter/receiver units) not only increase the temperature of the electronic components, but also lead to electromagnetic interference between the individual components.
The KERABSORB products thus combine various tasks in one, an “all-in-one” solution.
Compared to competitor products, KERABSORB products are even electrically insulating thanks to an innovative approach.

What is special about graphite foils?

Graphite foils are highly thermally conductive foils that can not only conduct heat in the Z direction, i.e. through the material itself, but also have extremely high thermal conductivity in the plane, i.e. in the X/Y direction.
This means that hot spots, such as those that occur with LEDs, can be cooled extremely efficiently.
Due to the high thermal conductivity of 200-300 W/mK, even a small contact surface is sufficient to cool the component.
In addition, graphite foils have good chemical resistance and very high temperature resistance, higher than other thermal interface materials.
